An Introduction to Naples Pizza
Naples Pizza, Newmarket is a family owned pizzeria located in the beautiful town of Newmarket, Ontario. Now into our 43rd year, we have seen the town grow from 16,000 to the over 80,000 it is today.
In 1974, Naples Pizza opened its doors on Main Street in Newmarket. In 1989, Naples Pizza made a bold move to close on Main Street and move to Leslie Street, Newmarket where we are currently located.
Naples Pizza, Newmarket, was founded by Luigi and Brigida Amaro, a hardworking Italian couple who came to Canada in 1956 from their hometown of Naples, Italy.
Family History and How Naples Pizza Originated
Luigi and Brigida Amaro landed in Montreal, Quebec in 1956 with their first child, Amelia. In 1957, Luigi became a foreman in a hosiery mill (Doris Hosiery Mills), the same year their second child Pasquale was born. In 1963, their third child Gino was born and Luigi’s place of work relocated to Winnipeg, Manitoba. In 1967, they had their fourth child, Oscar. With the looming possibility of the company closing, Doris Hosiery relocated to Toronto, Ontario in 1970. Luigi packed up his family from Winnipeg and settled in Newmarket. In 1974 due to company instability, Luigi found himself without employment and fell into troubled times. With four growing children and a wife who loved to cook, he came up with the idea of opening up his own business.
In early 1974, he sat his wife and children down and asked his family for support on this idea. We all agreed with the exciting idea. The wheels were in motion and we all agreed on opening a pizzeria. Originating from Naples, Italy, the name Naples Pizza was an obvious choice. With Brigida’s delicious homemade pizza sauce and Luigi’s delicious dough recipe, which was passed down from their parents, they took a chance on this idea and have been successful since then. With the help of their four children, Naples Pizza became a truly Italian family pizzeria.
Currently, Luigi Amaro, at the age of 91, has retired from the business, and Brigida Amaro has passed on. Oscar and Pasquale have taken over the family business with the same recipes and true values as instilled by their parents, which has made Naples Pizza, Newmarket what it is today.
